Description

I did a number of pics based on Howard Chaykin's late 70's space bounty hunter, Monark Starstalker (a very Don McGregor-esque name for a Chaykin character!). Monark was basically a space western character with some visual elements held over from HC's earlier SF swashbuckler series, Ironwolf, as well as a lot of cutting edge concepts that it would another decade for other comic creators to adopt (riggers, et al.)
While I liked the character (and his single story), the character was not the retro-30s/40s style character I had become used to seeing from HC (the Scorpion, Dominic Fortune, American Flagg, the Shadow, etc.) so I thought it might be fun to do an art deco/streamline-inspired take on the character - you can see the influence of Kaluta on the 2nd image as well- in addition to the more conventional update to be seen in most of the images.
