Before being a style of clothing, "sukeban" designated women's gangs in Japan during the 1960s. Tired of the sexist rules among the yakuza, sukeban women began to organize to go out and commit crimes. The typical dress code consisted of sailor collar shirts and long skirts, very similar to Japanese schoolgirl skirts, but elongated to hide weapons and also, as a criticism of the sexualization of Japanese teenage girls.

In this contemporary approach, the girls proudly display their weapons and fighting accessories.
