So, according to my Russian teacher, toward the end of the Cold War, blue jeans suddenly became crazy popular. The Party didn't much like that, of course, so they told everyone in the health magazines that they caused impotancy in men. Those who believed this didn't let their children wear them anymore. (Also, FYI, American shoes cause flatfoot.) Russia is so adorably gullible. And so adorably behind the times.
