Description

he vokna is a deep-sea filter feeder that relies on casting a massive web-like structure with its proboscis that captures planktonic organisms and transports them to the mouth using cilia. The proboscis is coated with a thin but sticky mucus that traps the plankton to be ingested later. The large pectoral fins on the side of the ocean allow for it to have an efficient method of swimming where it doesn’t have to expend a tremendous amount of energy. The large eyes of the vokna allow it to see better in the near absence of light in the deep oceans of Agrona where it lives. The deep red coloration of its body allows it to be better hidden from predators as light scattering in the deep ocean scatters red light faster, making the vokna harder to spot. The vokna also follows the migration of plankton in the water column, rising up closer to the surface of the ocean at night but sinking back into the abyss during the day. During the summer nights is when the vokna will aggregate in small fleets for protection but also to breed, showing off gracefully underwater maneuvers to impress potential mates.

I need to see this web it casts. Is it made of living tissue and is it retracted into the probiscus when finished?
