For this week’s picture I am returning to my usual order of business from…..very interesting scenario of the last week. But no worries, this time I got no need for mature filter ^^. This time I decided to draw Sonja from Advance Wars series scuba diving while wearing her custom zero suit. As such this is the first time I’ve drawn a diver with glasses (no, I don’t count the last week’s picture as “diving”……), I love girls with glasses since they look cute. I like Sonja quite well as a character in the series, she is actually smart unlike much of the other characters who mostly just run into battles and think later. This is especially true in the first game where she plays a crucial role in discovering the true mastermind behind the conflict. Plus she looks so smug when she is about to showcase her tactical manoeuvres, always love flexing after outsmarting your opponents. Unfortunately her CO powers are limited to fog of war maps and as such situational, making her underwhelming in war room maps. Still, gotta love our cute tactician ^^. Because Sonja likes to gather information about the battle terrain and other important stuff, I drew her with a water proof tablet and a pen so she can take notes on how to conduct battle in future battles. Maybe the Golden Comet can conduct surprise attacks with the information she collected and gain upper hand. To think about it, underwater world is pretty dark and could count as a fog of war. In that case Sonja is definitely in her own waters ^^

The drawing process was similar to my previous LAMA pictures so not much to comment on that front, feels nice to draw these from a scratch after multiple colourings of my commissions from other artists. Sonja’s zero suit design used a similar idea as Sami’s, the main colours are based on the uniforms of their respective armies. In this case yellow/gold is the colour scheme, it actually fits her well while looking distinct from Mami’s yellow zero suit. Her symbol is naturally the Golden Comet symbol since that’s the army she serves, no issues there. Drawing a character with glasses was a new experience for me though, it worked well in the end even though it required some extra work to get right. At least Sonja has ENCHANCED VISION while doing her underwater survey with them ^^. Overall this was a fun picture to work with, I always love doing Advance Wars related stuff ^^
