[Warning] Rant by PreciousKnightwalker on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

The rant got deleted the first time.
I told you there was a rant here.

Ahaha.. I might get a lot of hate for this...

[I wish there was a mature filter for 'be mature while reading this' but alas]

Ok, I couldn't sleep last night because this was bothering me.
This is an example of Obsessive World Building.
Be glad you do not have it people.

Jeff The Killer 2015 is NOT a retelling. It is a completely new story about a completely new character with the same name.

[OK, the story is not bad, it's well written, and relatively well paced, it's just not the Jeff I think we all came to love.]

This is mostly about the last few paragraphs in which Jeff's new personality as Jeff the Killer is revealed, and the part I know will stick with readers the most.

Normally I'd be ok with writing this off as an alternate universe, but when you delete the original and realize that kids from now on will be introduced to Jeff without the horrible written, unrealistic, campy story and the badly photoshopped photo it kind of hurts.

If I'd been introduced to him via the new story and then seen all the fanart I'd genuinely think it was a different character.

Maybe this is headcannon, but typing in Jeff The Killer to any art site confirms this belief of mine.

You do not use the word EMOTIONLESS to describe Jeff The Killer.

Majority of his pictures have strong emotional weight to them. Jeff is not a James Bond villain. He gets angry at BEN for beating him at videogames, he runs like hell from his fangirls, he gets annoyed waiting in line for the bathroom, he takes selfies with his dog(they made Jeff a cat person everyone), he cries on his brothers grave.

You need emotions to do that. You can not describe him as emotionless.
Jeff without emotions is like a remake of BEN DROWNED in Wind Waker.
Or a remake of Ticci-Toby where he likes pancakes.

Increasing his motivation to kill his parents is good until you realize that if he needed motivation to kill them, why would he kill anyone else?
If he just wanted to kill them, and clearly can control it, it's not like he'd suddenly have an urge to murder people left and right. If he did he would not have been able to have that conversation with Liu at the end. He would have either ran right away to avoid hurting his brother, or full on attacked him.

I feel like this story made the scenario more believable, but took away everything iconic about the character. If these things are mentioned anywhere beside the last 1/4 then that's just bad story structure. Missing are the
--smile
--charred eyelids
--Jeff's insane bliss
--white skin
--White hoodie
--ambiguous tragic ending
--humor in how bad the story was
Ok, let's be honest. Who's more badass and memorable, a kid who got into a fight, hit on the head with a wine bottle, covered in bleach and set on fire, or a kid who got shot with a flare gun in the face.

More importantly, which would you rather see a movie of..?

All the fanart is literally wrong now.

I hope I'm not the only one.

The story isn't bad. It's just that the official Jeff the Killer story is NOT ABOUT JEFF THE KILLER, and it pains me that this is now the reality of the character that helped me through the worst parts of my depression.
