Punch-Out NES 30 years quickie by ravenf6 on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

This one was a bit sudden and unexpected, but I thought it one worth doing: Today marks 30 years since the debut of the NES version of Punch-Out!! I was fortunate enough to have this game as a kid and enjoyed its screwball cast of outball characters, and fighting from the bottom ranks to the Dream Fight, with the dreaded Mike Tyson, no less.... of those fights, I lost most, but won a few times. Though usually by the skin of my teeth and a hair trigger push of the buttons. 🤣

I mused over doing a work for the occasion, but with it being short notice, I wasn't sure if I'd be able to pull it off. But before I knew it, I was sketching in Little Mac holding a cake, and Doc Louis giving a thumbs up. This one took a bit of time since I wasn't used to drawing Doc, let alone fat characters, and doing it all in a fairly quick time frame, but I must say I love how it came out, and hope that humble as it is, it suits the intended purpose. This game, among many others slowly influenced my art style, starting at my late middle school days to the present, so looking back , it's almost like seeing myself walking home from school, brewing up possible stories, my hand just itching to draw them out. :)

Here's to 30 years of PO on its NES debut, here's hoping we see more of its like. :)
