Description

Sickness,
Like a thorny rose,
Entered my life
And saved me.
I never was alone-
I spoke with God,
I spoke with the Devil.
I never missed
The company of men-
From time to time
I found the distraction
In unforeseen forms.
I played with my head,
The prize was freedom-
The loss
To do with less.
At times I lost sight
Of what I needed most.
At times I lost touch
With my inner, own god.
Disease,
Or the fear of it-
I doubt there’s a difference-
Woke me up
To face my death-
Each second,
Repeatedly,
In cruelty-
Through pain,
Until the end of reason,
The bastard child of fear-
Until the end of me.
