Astral Dragon by RedFurryDemon on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

In the beginnning there was nothing. The Realm, dark and soundless by corporeal standards, and thoughtless by astral ones, lasted in this state for what would be eternity - that is, if there was any time by which it could be measured.

And then there was Magic. It gave no light nor warmth as it lingered, but the more it was, the more was of it. It grew in quantity to the point of no return - for it took a defined shape.

The Dragon rose from the shadows, first and last One. Now it is not uncommon for magic to condensate and spontaneously bring to life sentient entities; however, Xe was unlike any that ever existed, as not only Xe was all magic, but all magic was Xym. As if in stasis, Xe remained motionless till the very last of Xir body had molded from the mist of magic.

A mighty roar shook the Realm and even now, as the waves of creation are slowly dying out, it can be heard where the Unknown begins. The Dragon sensed around for any light, thought, or magic other than Xir own; when Xe found none, Xe set the nine dimensions aflame. There was no plan or intent of creation. Being filled with dragonfire, the Realm soon began to shift and warp into two parallel Planes with the highest dimension as a bridge between them.

Stars condensed, worlds have risen and fallen - but the amount of magic was still increasing. Whether an oversight or deliberate decision, the Dragon did not use Xir might again, until the forces of magic ripped Xym apart into umpteen shards.

The First one to form from the remains was the King. Xir sword of thunder sharp like claws and teeth, and Xir platinum crown spiked as with the Dragon's horns. Xe is the one who wore the face of our fathers.

The Second one took shape of a Lord of Darkness. The kindest god with the appearance of a monster, with Xir wings not to swoop on Xir prey but to protect the faithful.

The Third one descended to the Corporeal Plane, a wandering mage. Xe loved the reptile race so much that Xe appears as one of them.

Not much is known about the Last one, but because of Xym we know much of the beginning. When no mortal could yet read, Xe sat down and wrote the Chronicles of Fate all by Xirself. Xe is the old man, the curious child, the stray cat, the wild spirit.

Thus, the four gods have risen.
