Nanowoman by RobertMacQuarrie1 on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

Nanowoman came about rather late in the process for these drawings. I had a tenth image planned for this batch, but I didn't like how it was shaping out so I scrapped it. In its' stead, I came up with three other designs. Nanowoman was the first.

I like the idea of the Metal Men, especially Platinum, and their various abilities. I like the idea of a character that can transform into anything they can think of. So after bouncing it around in my head for a bit, I came up with Nanowoman. I saw her as a young scientist who was infused with experimental nanites. She could then use them to reshape her body into anything she could imagine. Since she was a skilled scientist and inventor herself, she could come up with the designs and schematics in her head and the nanites would reshape her body accordingly. Meaning she wouldn't just take the shape of a rocket- she'd actually become a fully functioning rocketship. Or transform herself into a ambulatory tank. She could become as strong as steel, or as pliable as rubber. She could also reshape her limbs or other parts of her body into drills, saws or any other piece of machinery. Just think of her as a more functional version of DC's Plastic Man.

Nanowoman's design was also easy to come up with as well. I knew that a trademark of her look was that her face would show up on all the forms she'd change into, so I made sure to frame her face with a different border and color it a lighter shade of grey to differentiate itself from the rest of her body. I gave her blue boots and gloves to help her limbs stand out a little more. And I'm especially proud of the stylized "N" on her chest, since unsymmetrical letters like that are often hard to translate into a superhero design or logo.
