Character Mix by RRRandomness on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

This was a small experiment that ended I fleshing out a bit.

Started out as seeing how I could could easily change the color of a non-geometric shape, but turned into something that basically let me play around with layers, objects and object proprieties just so I could stretch out the Actionscript muscle a bit after so long.

I tried to make it into more than just another stupid chracter maker, like slightly animating the characters and having them interact, but I really didn't go to far. So all you can do is move around and have characters pounce and attack each other in cartoony fight clouds, because they're pretty silly.

So I added a bunch of different stuff so that at least some people could have some fun mixing and matching to some degree, and you can pick the colors of most things. Some of them are more specific, not every object works with every other object, so not every combination is likely to look too good.

To scroll through objects use the up and down arrows; to change the color, click the object's image (next to the arrows).

The color picker is a bit standard: drag the top circle to change the hue of the color, and drag the circle around the square to select saturation and brightness.

The four top left buttons select the character you are changing; the four below those are switches to add/remove characters.
Below that, the scroll next to the star let's you select an existing character.
Below THAT, there's a background picker and next to it it's basically a personality wheel which changes a character's expressions during actions; I ended up naming them after pokemon natures since there's a lot of pokemon related objects.

As for controlling the characters there's only 3 buttons, since I ended up not adding anything else:
Char1: Left, Up, Right
Char2: Q, W, E
Char3: A, S, D
Char4: Z, X, C
