He-Man and the Masters of the Universe by Rvnn on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

This is the first Masters of The Universe series I truly like. I never got into the 80's show, the 2000's show was made in my generation, but I never cared about it, the Netflix She-Ra show was okay, but nothing special, but this show, for whatever reason was really good to me.

I liked all the changes they made! The designs could maybe be a touch better and less Toy-Like (though that might be the actual reason they look like that), but I dig every character's outfit! I love that the Power of Greyskull is shared among the heroes. Instead of just "I have the power!" it's "We have the power!" which I find very inspiring for this day and age. Plus, now there really are MasterS of the Universe instead of just He-Man being a Master.

And the villains are great! Especially Skeletor who is legit hilarious and also legit terrifying. That's a hard combo to make, so it's very impressive! The other villains, Evil-Lynne, Trapjaw, Beast-Man are also all great and really embody the Saturday Morning cartoon villain. They know they're bad and they revel in it! Plus, like the Masters, they also have alternate forms that make them more powerful and even scary. Making them not only great foils, but also wonderful opposites for the heroes to face.

The world building is phenomenal and the animation, while might take a little getting used to, is really topnotch. The only downside to this series (at least a major one) I would say is that it's not very long. Each season is only like a dozen episodes, if not less. So everything is kinda rushed. So that's disappointing, but I still think the show is great despite that.
