inktober 29 -orekroark 29- by Scarlet-Harlequin-N on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

I haven't slept yet, and its technically the 29th, so I'm going to go ahaed and post the inktober. tired...
New angle. This one made me want to develop the orekroark in the front of the line as a particular character. She is one successful mum, having two adult sons (in picture, she's probably got a lot more than that), and carting along 5 pips on her back, and having no mate to help her out. (I want her to have the largest progeny count of her kind XD ).

Entry 29. There are two types of Short-wing orekroarks that live in the desert plain-like regions bordering the dry deserts; the feathered short-wing, which has fully feathered wings and live in the wetter parts of the region, and the membranous short-wing which has mostly bare wings and lives in the drier parts of the region. They are a smaller species that flies in short bursts to reach trees and quickly spot resources. Feathered Short-wing orekroark are a meek and speedy sort with very strong family bonds and social conduct. Their packs are family based; parents with their offspring and the mates and offspring of those. Offspring never leave their parents as long as they are alive and separate to form their own family groups about half of the time, meaning that packs of short-wings can grow very large or spread very far. Different packs are very tolerable of each other except when seasons product few resources. During times of little scuffles are common and predators learn to keep an eye out for fighting packs in order to pick off injured individuals or crash through the middle of the distraction. They have developed a certain sort of armor to wear only in the dry seasons when they expect to fight for resources. it tends to include the scales and spikes or horns of larger animals carved to be barbed and particularly sharp, and is only for the purpose of repelling or causing injury to predators rather than protect from each other.
