The sound of approaching battle grew louder. As Southtown’s time grew short, his intent to finish her off before his own end arrived grew stronger. Charlotte could feel his blows as they became harder. Her arm was weakening. She made the decision to play a desperate trick. As he brought his saber down in another hammer blow, instead of blocking with her sword, she grabbed the blade with her gloved hand. Before Southtown knew what had happened, she slammed the flat of her own blade down on his hand. Recoiling in pain, his grip loosened and she jerked the sword away.
