Description

Just a water creature, probably my only contribution to MerMay this year.

I used Winsor & Newton, Roman Szmal and Daniel Smith watercolours on Arches hot press paper and Van Gogh gouache with uniball liner and Sakura white gell pen.

I swear I hate that paper.
Hot press is the devil of watercolour paper. I hate it so much but I spent a lot of money on Arches hot press, so I am forcing myself to use it.
It's super smooth and has no texture at all. I got it thinking it would be great for easy lineart since toothed watercolour paper kills the micron nibs.
Guess what? The blobs of paint make static puddles on that paper. Paint sits there and does nothing. It doesn't flow. It doesn't move. And the layering feels weird and colours seem duller.
I discovered it salts very well and takes lots of layers. Still not my fav paper. Paint sits there and doesn't flow.
