Lucky, that skinny, somewhat nosey woman was passing and spoke up.

Something about her plain speaking and suggestion of a truce over coffee resonated with the couple.

And when Marjorie heard the waitress ask "What may I get for you two ladies?" and noticed the care Martin had made with his makeup, earrings, wig, nd other little details . . . . she realized there was a profound need for Martin to express these elements of his identity.

Their marriage had become unhappy . . . but over that (rather weak!) coffee, both partners experienced the glimmer of a spark of hope for a new take on the whole paradigm.

They later, when downtown, looked for the skinny and nosey lady . . . . to thank her. But she never was seen again. Just "a lucky coincidence" she had been passing that one time. Maybe . . . . .
