The Three Poisons by SkarmorySilver on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

From the notes of Professor Viridan Nephelium:

Depicted are recreations of three different recurring pictographs found throughout most of the rural areas of Sundo. These symbols are not restricted to any particular location in the region, being found wherever humans have taken up residence, although curiously they don't seem to be found in more modern areas of urban civilization. These three symbols appear in all manner of forms from crudely smeared graffiti to elaborate tapestries and murals, but the iconography and subjects portrayed appear to be consistent throughout. Variance in quality aside, the artistic style of these pictographs is notable in that it does not seem to have any known equivalent in any other region, suggesting that they are vestigal imagery from a long-lost civilization. Furthermore, the pictographs seem to match certain symbolic glyphs and carvings found in several archaeological sites both at the northern end of Panas Island and near the southern tip of Kemaru Peninsula, hinting at the possiblity of mythological figures known to the civilization in question being bought to Sundo when it migrated to the region from a land to the north. Further investigation is warranted to determine the veracity of this prospect, though.

The symbols themselves seem to depict three different creatures which are unlike any Pokémon known to the Sundo region or anywhere else for that matter, which is notable due to no records existing of any such Pokémon or even accounts of existing Pokémon being mistaken for such creatures in any capacity. There also appear to be symbols scattered around the monsters themselves as though to suggest that they bring some sort of localized phenomenon, although what this is has yet to be officially confirmed. Observations and interviews with locals seem to suggest that the three creatures were once widely feared as harbingers of catastrophe, and it is notable that in virtually all cases, the natives were hesitant to discuss them unless pressed on the issue, as though they were trying to ignore or forget them, only further arousing suspicion. I did however find one ancient scripture which describes, from the translated text, "The Three Poisons" - supposedly an allegory referring to the flaws of human nature at their most basal, but a number of Legendary Pokémon have been represented in folklore as personifications of concepts such as knowledge, emotion, willpower, truth, ideals, etc. Could this mean that Delusion, Greed, and Hatred were also projected onto a hitherto unknown triad of Pokémon species that has since disappeared from the history books? And for that matter, did they really disappear, if they did exist, or are they merely hidden away in remote, unexplored places, waiting to return once more and unleash their poisons on an unsuspecting world...?
