An Amazon's Hubris, 8 (Updated) by Sleeper77 on DeviantArt (original) (raw)
The General was a half-second away from delivering a fatal impalement to the helpless Amazon. Although he had corrupted Promethea, the guardian statue, so that she would attack an Amazon, his own sorcery lacked the strength to totally override its original enchantment. Incredible magic had been imbued in the statue eons ago. It sensed the imminent death of an Amazon, opening a crack in the General's spell and freeing it sufficiently from his evil thrall to remedy the situation. Neither the General or the Amazon were aware that in one instant all of reality was changed: a deadly charge transformed into one decidedly nonlethal. Wonder Woman was spared a brutal death, but her pardon was not total. What little consciousness remained in her was snuffed out when the General clotheslined her head over heels.
