Description

Geof Darrow is one of my favorite cartoonists period - from his work on Hard Boiled to his own series - Shaolin Cowboy. Imagine my surprise when I began to read his work and found out that he had something published from the 80s to the 90s that I didn't hear about - Bourbon Thret. His first real comic work considering that City of Fire, his collaboration with Moebius that predated Bourbon Thret, was more of an art portfolio rather than a true piece of comics work. This series happens to be a type of spiritual ancestor of Shaolin Cowboy, in that you have a small and bumbling protagonist who has a real gift for mayhem and bloodshed. What's more the entire series much like Darrow's written work happens to be a fusion of Buster Keaton and John Woo - that is to say comedic mayhem and PURE VIOLENCE. And to be sure it is CARNAGE beautifully illustrated (unsurprising considering its Darrow). Here's hoping a full collection eventually makes it way to bookstore shelves.
