Song of Ea - Dagda by stephense on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

Dagda is a type of powerful being known as a Maiar, which participated in the Music of the Ainur, and worked closely with other Maiar who served Manwe and Aule. During the forming of the world, Dagda aided the Valar against Morgoth, fighting to stop the Dark Lord from destroying and conquering Middle Earth. But as his heart was weighed down with sorrow from all the destruction and sorrow caused by Morgoth and his servants, Dagda's heart began to go out to the stars, wondering what else lay beyond Eru Iluvatar's realm besides the void.

Dagda gained Iluvatar's permission to journey beyond Arda. Dagda journeyed across time and space, and eventually discovered a new world, Midgard. Exploring the young planet, Dagda found it very similar to Middle Earth, but absent of Morgoth's influence as the Dark Lord had no knowledge of the existence of other worlds beyond Arda. Emboldened, Dagda continued to explore the universe, discovering other worlds such as DuckWorld. During his journey, Dagda discovered the magical power of the cosmos itself, which few beings even knew existed or could tap into. Dagda gradually learned to use this cosmic energy, and eventually mastered it, creating what would become known as Faerie Magic, the most pure and powerful form of magic.

Armed with new power and knowledge, Dagda returned to Arda, and once more sought Iluvatar's permission, this time to take his fellow Maiar and the peoples of Middle Earth who resisted Morgoth to Midgard. Iluvatar refused, on the grounds that such an exodus would reveal the existence of other worlds to Morgoth, but permitted Dagda to take his wife Mab with him if she was willing to go. Mab agreed to come with Dagda to Midgard if she could bring a group of young Ents she had been caring for with her. Dagda won Iluvatar's approval, and so he set out for Midgard again, this time with his wife and several Entlings accompanying him.

Dagda taught Faerie Magic to Mab, and the two bound its power to their very being. When Dagda and his wife settled in Ireland, they had their children, the first of the faeries, which eventually branched into seven families, each born with a spark of the same magical power Dagda had discovered and mastered. Dagda later forged Excalibur, using one of the Lost Silmarils he had found, and a piece of Mithril he'd brought with him from Middle Earth, crafting a sword that he bound to his own bloodline.

Dagda became the first high king of the faeries, and ruled over his people without incident, reaching out to and befriending the races that already inhabited Midgard. When Velkor first appeared and revealed himself to the faeries. Dagda was alarmed at first that a servant of Morgoth had followed him and Mab to Midgard. When Velkor assured him that he had deserted Morgoth's service, Dagda was suspicious, but consented to Velkor staying on Midgard. However, Dagda never fully trusted Velkor, and his suspicions were confirmed when Velkor tried to stage a coup by assassinating Dagda. Deciding to be merciful and give Velkor a chance to repent, Dagda banished Velkor from the faerie kingdoms of Midgard.

Unfortunately, Velkor instead raised up armies of demonic creatures of his own to overthrow the faeries and conquer Midgard. Dagda led the fight against Velkor's minions and allies. When the Istari Merlin arrived on Midgard, sent by Iluvatar, Dagda recognized the amnesiac wizard as a fellow Maiar, and took him in. Dagda taught Merlin all he knew of Faerie Magic, with the latter becoming Dagda's close friend and advisor.

When the Two Lost Ships of Numenor appeared in Midgard, and the ship captained by Aeneas landed in ancient Britain, Dagda welcomed them and agreed to let Aeneas' men take wives from among the faeries. When Dagda's son, Aengus, married Aeneas' daughter, Dagda officially adopted the Warlocks as his own children, making them honorary faeries, and acknowledged Aeneas' descendants as faerie royalty. Centuries later, Dagda decided to bind Excalibur to the Pendragon Bloodline, so that only a direct descendant of Arthur Pendragon, who was Dagda's descendant, could wield the sword.

After Arthur's passing, and Velkor's disappearance, Dagda was so dismayed by the death toll and destruction that war had brought to his family, that he decided to move the faeries to DuckWorld, knowing that if they remained on Midgard, future wars with humanity would be inevitable. Dagda and his wife and children used their magic to transport their remaining realms, and other races of Earth that sought to join them, to DuckWorld, where they remained.

After the faeries were situated though, Dagda disappeared. Though his whereabouts were unknown to most, Dagda had been watching over his descendants through Arthur Pendragon's line on Midgard, knowing that the time would come when one of them would claim Excalibur. When Lincoln Loud was born, Dagda and his wife, disguised as the president and First Lady, met Lincoln and gave him their blessing. When the time came, Dagda received permission from Iluvatar to bring Lincoln to DuckWorld. Dagda and his wife transferred most of their magic into Lincoln, and a bit of it not Lily, so Lincoln would have the power to face the foes he would soon enough encounter in the future.
