The Rose Princess by StitchpunkGem on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

Something I've been wanting to make and have been making since yesterday. I've taken some inspiration from "The Tale of the Princess Kaguya" and the reference sheet of www.deviantart.com/hachiretsu/… by www.deviantart.com/hachiretsu , mainly with the clothes part.
So, whether or not roses were a part of the Heian Era or not, this is the Rose Child Princess, or Barako Hidenka because no matter what color it was, she had always loved roses.
First was the green roses when she was 1-5 years of age. Green roses represent birth, youth, and innocence, which is how toddlers like the little princess usually are. Since she loved roses but wasn't old enough to understand the exquisite taste of Heian aristocrats, her mother picked out the green robed kimono for her.
Next was the pink roses when she was no longer a toddler, but now 5-11 years old. Pink roses were her favorite now, as pink is a gentle tint of red that symbolizes femininity, kindness, and grace, and is a color most little girls may favor.
Then came the white roses when she was 12-14. It was at this time when she was starting to question her religions and thought she was more of a Shintoist, even though Buddhism was at the height of its popularity during her time. She's still led an innocent life, and is devoted to her lessons of drawing, writing, and sewing; she had even made her white rose kimono herself. It's also around this time that she started wearing makeup.
After that came the yellow roses when she was 15-18, and now she has started to truly see the melancholy road of life. It makes her especially sad when she thinks about death, loss, and has a deep fear of the state of Nirvana, which not a lot of people understand, including her parents. When she grows desensitized to the feeling of sadness or grief, it makes her feel even more melancholy and board. However, she oddly likes yellow roses, which not only symbolize joy, but also jealousy.
Now the blue roses, which the Rose Child Princess grew to love from when she was 19 till she died at 21 years. All her life, she had planted roses of many colors; green, pink, white, yellow, and a few others. Now that she had come to think about it, she had never actually seen blue roses before, at least none that she had painted blue. Some of her family members have died, and many of her friends have abandoned her, along with her family. She was too pained by the harsh realities of life, and had no one to share it with, so her grief turned into an illness, and she may or may not have committed suicide. Before she died, though, she had prayed to be the spirit of a rose tree with blue flowers, and had planted a tree of white roses. 100 years after, the tree had completely blue rose petals, and her spirit wondered around there ever since.
