Moon Gate by Suki-Rainbow on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

A fully-fledged witch or wizard can come and go from the magic world whenever he and she wants, but the only way an under-qualified witch or wizard can come and go from the magic world is through their house, a Transit door or a Moon Gate.

Witches and wizards used to live in the human world, but now there's very few left. When humans started to catch on that witches and wizards are real, that caused a lot of trouble for them. It all started way back in the medieval era, when religion was an essential part of society and humans believed that only God could perform miracles. So they didn’t take too kindly to witches and wizards. They thought that people performing magic was abnormal, a sign of the Devil, witchcraft.
Some of them put up with them, but only because they wanted lucky charms or to be healed or to learn the future. Mostly, it was the opposite. Some feared them. Some wanted to take advantage of them. Some wanted to hunt them and kill them. And they did. So, in the end, it was decided that it would be best if they kept to themselves. So they created their own world: Magicka. Also known as Fairyland, Otherworld, the magic world, Maginary, Magitasia and Fantasia.

In their darkest hour, they prayed to the goddess Hecate, turned their eyes to the heavens and there she was. She promised them a sanctuary: a world hidden from human sight. And there was a doorway, just waiting to be entered. A Moon Gate.

There used to be Moon Gates all over the human world that led to Magicka, but most of them are gone now.
