She is almost like a hero, gazing into the distance with outward strength and determination. But she hides a secret. She has been scarred by her life, scarred by her past and these scars are present at all times, clouding her thoughts and influencing her actions every day. This painting is about the way past events change the way we see the world and make us into the people we are. Each thing, be it good or bad, that occurs in our lives is another scar. The flesh tones in the background symbolize the physical nature of scars while the drawn lines signify the change and development of human beings as their lives progress.
