Sprite Stuff: 'Project Superman' by SXGodzilla on DeviantArt (original) (raw)
Another dip into the world of DC Comics's 'Flashpoint' event. This time it's the version of Kal-El in this altered reality.
Due to the shifts and changes (initially believed to be the result of Barry Allen's attempt to save his mother from Professor Zoom), the rocket bringing infant Kal-El's course is altered... sending the ship right into the city of Metropolis. After the fiery carnage that ensues, the government swoops in and confiscates both the infant and (in this altered timeline) his dog.
This in turn leads to the creation of 'Project Superman', where both subjects experience extremely sheltered lives as they are involved in various tests... to find out how to use their enhanced alien DNA to make supersoldiers.
Due to living such a relatively harsher/limited existence, Kal-El looks pretty sickly as a result. Pale, lanky, and due to various experiences (mainly a massive catastrophe involving the results of said experiments going on a rampage) is quite timid and almost maladjusted by the point a group of heroes (led by Barry Allen himself) come to free him. Despite some adjustment needed, and some time in the sun for the first time in his ENTIRE life, Kal joins the eventual fight on the side of Barry Allen, Cyborg and Thomas Wayne... saving the collected heroes from the wrath of the traitorous turncoat Enchantress by pretty much LANDING on her at probably MACH 3.
What I found interesting about this turn of events for Superman was how much of a non-player he's been in the chain of events... outside of his DNA and Kryptonian Tech being the key focal point of said Project. You get the feeling that EVERYTHING even remotely Kryptonian-related was always on the radar. Which is why you had moments, in other stories, (the neat Booster Gold tie-in) where even creatures like Doomsday were experimented on.
And I really dug the return visit to the Flashpoint universe during the 'Convergence' storyline, that shows how this version of Clark is coping with a new life outside of confinement.
I hope they will eventually return to this world, which seems to be the intention shown by upcoming events that will bring both the Mainstream DC Universe, Flashpoint, AND the world of the Watchmen colliding.
Made this using a Vega sprite pose, and the head of the Superman sprites made by 'Kal-Elvis' for Mugen. Still... had to thin the body even more. XD But don't let his looks fool you, he's still a force to be reckoned with even in this state.
Hope it looks good.
