In the midst of the strange change in mood, Andy immediately felt the upset in their reaction. So he figured that in order to keep the peace w/ his fellow Art Cruise-mates (even if this was only for one more week or so), he might want to backtrack or offer some sort of clarification for having casually remarked that, from what he has understood, he has always respected Matisse for being true to his vision and for having not gone along the Cubists of the day - and instead, continuing to portray more naturalistic shapes & tones. However, Jay & Mike were having none of it. Wordlessly, the two of them turned away & marched brittlely off together toward the opposite side of the room. And the next thing Andy knew, they had disappeared, leaving him behind.
