1.) Have something going on in the background, middleground and foreground. 2.) Add at least one base shade of shadow to make the drawing have some sort of depth. 3.) Make sure your piece is proportionate (not only the subject itself but how the subject relates to everything else). 4.) Include at least one foreshortened object in your piece to add depth. 5.) Make your background have some kind of perspective. Perspective will help you no matter what art field you are interested in. I realize that some jobs don't require this skill, such as concept art, but having the skill will definitely help you, if nothing else with personal sketches.
