Day at the park

(This is an attempt to develop my characters' personalities and explore how they interact with eachother.) "...Eden? Eden, are you up yet?" Eden's eyes flickered open. She'd probably been lying in bed for about 30 minutes after she actually woke up. She wasn't really tired, but she didn't really want to get up. While she put her glasses on, Esther started talking again. "Umm, I was just a little concerned... It's already 11:30 and you hadn't woke up yet..." Eden was a little annoyed that Esther hadn't learned how late she usually woke up, but she couldn't really blame Esther, since they had drastically different routines. Eden usually stayed up late and slept in when she had nothing better to do, and spent most of her waking hours on the same activity, usually staying in their shared room. Esther, however, wanted to socialize with the other residents of the house, and so started her day early enough to interact with all of them. It just so happened that everyone else stayed downstairs for the whole day. Esther wouldn't usually talk to Eden untill later in the day, so it was a little strange for her to talk to her in the morning. "Um, anyway, Posie wanted to go to the park today, and everyone else wanted to go as well, and I didn't want you to be left out..." "Uh, I'll go, I guess." Eden responded half-heartedly. She hadn't planned on leaving the house today, but she knew a trip to the park would take at least an hour or so, and she didn't want to be left alone for that long. "Oh, really? great!" Ether said, suddenly enthusiastic. "Um, just come downstairs when you're ready! Oh, you haven't eaten yet, right? I can bring you some snacks if you'd li-" "No, Esther. I'll be fine. I'll be down soon." Esther nodded happily and quickly left to join the others downstairs. Eden went ahead and got ready for the day. -----------------------------------------------------------------------‐------------- "J.B, put your seat belt on or you can stay home." Mother Edith had already noticed J.B.'s seat belt was still off. J.B. huffed, but complied. It wasn't uncommon for K.B. and J.B. to try and get away with little things like that, things that slightly inconvenienced them. Luckily, K.B. actually drove responsibly. If Mother Edith could actually fit in the car she'd be the one driving, but Edith was, quite frankly, a giant compared to those in her care. She wasn't abnormally tall for her species, but she physically couldn't fit in cars anymore. None of the girls really knew how she traveled, actually, but she still made sure the girls drove safely, and she always arrived before they did. Once Mother Edith had checked to make sure everyone was safe, she nodded to let K.B. know she could start driving. Once they had gotten on the road, conversation started. "Gotta say, surprised you actually got Eden to wake in the first place, Esther." K.B. snickered. "Specially since she don't even trust ya." "H-hey! That's not true! Is it, E-eden?" Esther said, hoping Eden would back her up. Eden, who was completely zoned out untill she was addressed, only vaguely knew what was happening. "Y-yeah? You... w-were friended- uh, we're friends." Eden leaned closer to the window, like that would somehow make her less noticeable. The loud, distinct cackle of J.B. drew their attention to her. "You two think you're friends?! That's the dumbest thing I've- why you gotta be kidding! You hardly even speak to eachother!" J.B. laughed. "Eden barely even talks, like she even got a reason not to. You gotta be the most cowardly little thing I've ever seen." K.B. remarked, although she was hardly paying attention since she was driving. Posie didn't really understand why the big kids found it so funny, but she still wanted to be apart of the conversation. "Eden used to talk alot." the little one bud in. She didn't have much to offer but this bit of information. "Really now? And why'd ya stop? J.B. asked inquisitively, although still sounding rather rude. Eden tensed. *Why did she need to know? Why did Posie have to talk? Did she have to cite evey event that made her quiet?* Eden didn't really want to answer. What did they want her to say? That she didn't want people to get mad at her? That she regrets the things she says when she does talk? That she's afraid of how people will respond to her? The five girls had sat in silence for probably about 50 seconds, all waiting for a response from Eden. "Sooo... you gonna say anything, or...?" J.B.'s tone had shifted from belittling to confusion. Eden was actually staring into space at this point, looking completely blank. "EDEN!" Esther yelled. Eden apparently snapped back into reality, looking very agitated on account of Esther shouting in her ear. "Sorry, sorry!" Esther said hastily. "Y-you were zoned out, so I-" "Answer the damn question, Eden! Why can't you just talk to... literally anyone?" J.B. interrupted. "U-uh I.. I just... don't... want to...?" Eden somehow managed to say in the least convincing way possible. J.B. furrowed her brow and grumbled. It was definitely an easy way for Eden to know that she completely and utterly failed to convince anyone, although she already knew this as soon as she heard herself speak. "Well girls, can you like, not fight until we get back home?" K.B. chimed in. "We're here." ------‐------------------------------------------------------ The park was essentially just some play equipment that was built in the middle of a small clearing in the woods. Granted, it was plenty of fun for a little kid like Posie, but the big kids had little interest in it. While K.B. and J.B. chatted with eachother, Mother Edith supervised Posie and the rest of the girls to make sure they didn't wander off too far. Eden decided to sit down for a bit away from the others, but Esther saw this trip as the perfect opportunity to talk to Eden, and she wasn't going to change her plans anytime soon. (That's it for now! Maybe I will continue this later if I feel like it. Thanks for reading!)
