Thunder cracked in the distance, promising a storm soon. Amara ambled down the silent street, her long, flowing gown rustled softly against the verdant foliage that grew thick through the cobblestone; all around, pine trees were shedding their leaves, seeming to reach up towards the sky like great, gnarled fingers, their naked branches swaying gently in the cool breeze. She paused for a moment, tilting her head up to admire the ominous ruin of what had once been an impressive fortification. This world, the witch reflected as she climbed the crumbling stairs and passed through the gaping hole where the main entrance had once stood, had changed.
