Gunbuster and Super Dimensional Fortress Macross meet in this crossover drawing between the Gunbuster and a VF-01 Valkyrie.

I'm a big fan of mecha anime and I felt it'd be cool to do some type of Super Robot Wars type of crossover between certain shows that would make sense to some degree. I decided that putting Macross technology into the Gunbuster universe would work, as the two share the setting of fighting against an alien threat for the sake of humanity's survival.

My headcanon for this piece is that the SDF-01 Macross crash lands on Earth, but in the Gunbuster world. The over-technology that was discovered and repurposed from the Macross leads to the development of the Valkyrie fighters, just like in the original Macross series, but this time they are put to use alongside the already existing RX-7 machines and the titular Gunbuster.

Together, the SDF-01 Macross and the Exelion fleet are able to fight off the Space Monsters and bring about peace for humankind, at a much faster rate than in the original Gunbuster OVA.
