June sketches: Page 2 June 5th and 6th 2017

Here's my second page from the sketch-a-day challenge I'm doing with NikosBoukouvalas and Mahira-chan for the month of June. The first sketch is a detail image of the medieval Polish "Beautiful Madonna" from Wrocław (ca. 1390), though I did change the crown. More views of the lovely statue here. I wanted to put in some shading, so it got rather elaborate as I played around with the artist markers I've used previously for my CotW comics. But it doesn't smudge, so that's why I used it, and I do rather like the addition of shading. So....this has made all my sketches take a bit longer to do. :XD: I was having so much fun that I wanted to do another one, so I did a quicker sketch of a face with cool shadows for the second one. It's actually an image of Michael Fassbender, though it doesn't really look like him, but I like how the face turned out anyway. Then the next day I started working on a very complex sketch of Bohemond and his nephew Tancred, but it wasn't coming out very well (that darn foreshortening of that arm!), so I went off and did a sketch of a random Frankish dude, which eventually turned into Baldwin de Boulogne, the brother of Godfrey de Bouillon. But I'm okay with that. :D He was supposed to just be smiling as he squinted in the sun, but I'm afraid he has a rather wicked I'm-up-to-no-good look on his face. Probably he's about to start a beef with poor ol' Tancred. :XD:

Anyway, then when I finished him, I was enjoying myself so much that I went back to my sketch of Bohemond and Tancred and fixed the arm ("Look Tancred! It's the Blessed Virgin! Is she offering me the lordship of all the kingdoms of the world or is that just an orange?"). In other news, I think this is my first sketch of Bohemond and Tancred ever! How's that for sad? Man, I need to draw these people more. And look! I even gave Tancred that little shield design I worked on from my previous sketch! And yay Norman armor!

Heh, I enjoy sketching these things far too much :D Enjoy!
