My Top 10 Favourite Sesame Street Characters by TheTrainMrMenPonyFan on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

Ah, Sesame Street, one of the biggest shows from anyone's childhood. It has taught many people all around the around about numbers and letters, as well as teaching valuable lessons that hold up to this day, not to mention all the segments and songs we all love and remember, and I must say, it's still doing rather well for a show that's lasted a long time. And now, it's time to check out my top 10 favourite characters from Sesame Street. As usual, these are MY personal opinions, so if your favourite didn't make it, don't be too mad, okay? We're all still human, after all.

But first, here are some honourable mentions:
Baby Bear
Herry
Abby Cadabby
Julia
Rosita

And now, for the real list. Let's enter this street!

10: Telly - I've always been fond of Telly from the beginning. I enjoy watching his friendship with Baby Bear, and they definitely make cool BFFs, and I always found his love for triangles quite interesting; he even collects things that are triangular and goes to exhibitions that have anything to do with triangles. And he's also quite good on a pogo stick.

9: Mr. Johnson - Or as many like to call "Fat Blue". Anyway, I always loved the segments with him and Grover; everywhere he goes, Grover always seems to be working there, even as a flight attendant in an aeroplane! And every time that happens, nothing ever seems to go right for him, mainly due to Grover messing something up, but the one place where he gets the most misfortune would be at Charlie's Restaurant, where he always has Grover as his waiter, and we all know how that ends! Mr. Johnson was an obvious choice for this list.

8: Oscar the Grouch - While Oscar may not be very friendly due to being a grouch, it's still what makes him rather iconic. He lives in a trach can right next to Big Bird's nest and is always telling others to "scram" or "get lost" whenever they bother him too much. Despite all this, he does have a soft side, especially when it comes to his pet worm, Slimey. At some points at the end of an episode, Oscar would read a bedtime story to him about "Trash Gordon", and would even be asked to read more, which of course he would deny.

7: Count Von Count - While vampires may come across as scary to others, I'd say the Count is an exception. He's not just called "the Count" because he's a vampire, but he's called "the Count" because his most favourite thing to do is counting things. My favourite scenes of him are when he's trying to figure out the "number of the day" from 1 to 20, and during the 2000s, he had an organ which could tell him what it was. Man, I miss those segments.

6: Elmo - Of course Elmo would be on this list, why wouldn't he? He's one of the most iconic characters from Sesame Street. While some may find him annoying because of his voice, there are others such as myself who still find him adorable. I love how he's always referring to himself in the third person. For example, instead of saying "I am Elmo", he says "Elmo is Elmo". I also quite admire how friendly he is to everyone, and how can I forget his role in "Elmo's World", and while it may not be the same as it once was, I must say it's earlier seasons still hold up.

5: Big Bird - And now we come to the most iconic character from Sesame Street. Big Bird is exactly what his name says he is, a big bird. As a result, he lives in quite possibly the biggest bird's nest in existence. I felt rather sorry for him when his nest got blown away in a hurricane, but eventually, everyone was able to build a new one for him. Big Bird is a friend to almost everyone on Sesame Street, and it's no wonder the younger ones look up to him for advice. And I love the way he sleeps too.

4: Bert - Bert is one of the most relatable characters in any franchise. While he may act grumpy, it's only because he wants things to be perfect and not waste time with little things. His hobbies include collecting paper clips and bottle caps, and he loves pigeons, as he's often going to the park feeding them and being friends with them. And while he can get easily annoyed with Ernie's antics, he still considers him his best friend. Speaking of which...

3: Ernie - I can't talk about Bert without mentioning Ernie. Compared to Bert, Ernie is more fun and outgoing, and while his antics can get on Bert's nerves a lot, in the end, he doesn't really mean to and is still a good friend regardless. I love how close he is towards his Rubber Duckie and likes to take it with him everywhere he goes, except when he has to play the saxophone, hence the song "Put Down the Duckie", and he loves being in the bath with him.

2: Cookie Monster - Why is this guy called "Cookie Monster"? Because he loves to eat cookies. Granted, he'll eat any kinds of food, but cookies are the foods he'll eat more than anything. I love how he eats them too, as he's always making a mess and throwing crumbs everywhere, that's always hilarious. In the early 2000s, there were segments where he presents the audience with the "Letter of the Day" and he brings up a cookie with said letter iced onto it, and he tries to fight the urge to eat them but never succeeding. Regardless of his eating habits, he's still a good friend to have and it's why he's number two on this list. Who's number one? Let's find out!

1: Grover - Of course it's Grover, who else? Out of all the characters from Sesame Street, Grover is the one I look forward to seeing the most. I love the segments he shares with Mr. Johnson and often getting his demands wrong (BTW, I still question to this day how he has so many different jobs), especially when he works as a waiter at Charlie's Restaurant. And there are even some segments where he's a superhero, dubbing the name "Super Grover", and while he doesn't always succeed with his heroics, I still love how he tries to help people in need. Oh yeah and I remember loving the Golden Book, "the Monster at the End of This Book" where Grover tries desperately to get the reader from turning pages to the end of the book, that was hilarious! Grover is the kind of monster anyone could ask for in a friend, which is why I consider him my favourite Sesame Street character.
