We walked by a tree that summer day, Marveling at the bright green leaves that grew there, Except for one branch that looked somewhat bare; --Its life had fallen early and decayed. In your eyes I saw a glimmer of Hope and a beautiful dream of a new life; Except for a few moments full of strife We almost began a new love. Your voice was that of a Siren begging me To stay and swallow lotus flowers; Except instead of bliss only a blur Like a dove above the buried. Since then, a discourse of falsity, And a voice that screamed out for me Not to leave the side of that lonely tree With its branches
