Description

My Eye. The surface of the iris looks like sand. This was a clumsy experiment involving my bathroom mirror and a flashlight. I held the camera in my left hand, pointed at my left eye, but in such a way that my right eye could just see around it to the mirror, where I could see the back screen . The construction of the 40D makes hitting the shutter while holding it like this extremely difficult, so I had a remote shutter release in my right hand, along with a high intensity LED flashlight which shot a beam across my eye. It took a few tries, but I like the result. This photo is not altered in any way. BTW, people with lighter colored eyes don't have the "sand pattern" effect. The irises of blue and green eyes look like strands or bundles of yarn.
