That's Bull (dog)! by tleach0608 on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

Going to any dog park will be a two-person job for me because I need my husband to be there for Emma while I play with and photograph everyone's dogs. =D I originally had some reservations about going as I've heard many bad stories about dogs out of control, but was happy to find that the dogs this day played with each other really well, ran around and were very genial overall.

This gentleman was an extremely affectionate, playful English Bull Dog that was introduced to me as he was tearing apart a basketball. I can't remember his name, but I do remember that I got lots of slobbery kisses from him as he ran around after Emma and used the deflated basketball as a chew toy.

English bull dogs are descendents of the mastiff and were given their name because they were originally used to bait bulls and in a now banned practice, they used to be pitted against bulls, attacking from beneath to come up to the neck. However, this ferocious and courageous behavior is reserved for intruders, as they have one of the most gentle temperaments with their human owners.
