The Piper at the Gates of Dawn by Tolkyes on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

Oil on canvas. 22"x30".

This painting is my mental image of what I think of when I read the phrase, "Piper at the Gates of Dawn" from the album title by Pink Floyd along with the chapter title using the same phrase from my favorite children's book, "The Wind in the Willows". I would assume that is where Pink Floyd got their title from. The imagery is also influenced by Pink Floyd's early psychedelic music.

Also, the phrase, "piper at the gates of Dawn" reminds me of the "pillars of creation" which is part of the 'Horse Head Nebula' in outer space, which you can see in my painting, "Nursery". There is also a 'piper' looking nebula as well , which I included in my painting, "Death; Autumn Spirits Near the Doorway to Infinity".
