My Review of Cars 3 (2017) by TTTEFan19 on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

Been a while since I’ve done one of these, hasn’t it?But, anyways, it’s finally time for me to review my absolute favourite Pixar movie, Cars 3. Yeah, it’s interesting to think that Cars 3 of all of Pixar’s films is my absolute favourites. Of course, lots of people would just go for like Toy Story, Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Up, you know, the most popular ones out there. But, not me I guess. But, what does make this my favourite of all of Pixar’s films? Well, let’s dive on in, shall we?First off, let’s go over the animation. It is absolutely stunning. Pixar has gotten it down to its Science when it comes to their animation. I was already impressed with their animation in Finding Dory, but, it is taken to the next level in this movie. From the reflections on the cars, to the mud in the Demolition Derby sequence, to the water, the animation is absolutely incredible!I also liked the new characters in this movie. Particularly Cruz Ramirez and Smokey. Jackson Storm was also a very interesting antagonist. I also liked some of the other characters, partically Miss Fritter, Louise Nash, Junior Moon and River Scott. The idea (for the latter three) of three racing legends who used to race with Doc is a very interesting idea.Speaking of characters, Mater was shown as a supporting character in this film like in the first movie as the second movie had him as the lead. And while it was a nice change for the second movie, I think it’s very clear Pixar learned from their mistakes from Cars 2. But I gotta say. Mater was handled really well in this movie. There was one scene where McQueen shares his worries to Mater, and.... it was just so great. I definitely agree with The Unlucky Tug on how Mater was handled in this movie. But how they handled Doc? My word. They couldn’t have tributed the late Paul Newman in a more tearful way than this.I also need to mention the music in this movie. Randy Newman returned to compose the music for this film. And the music in this movie is absolutely amazing. I like how some of it reuses some motifs from the first movie. And the songs were also great. But Run That Race and Ride take the cake as the best songs in the movie. They’re just so catchy! The emotion in this movie also hit very hard in this movie. There was one moment when Cruz tells McQueen her backstory of when she wanted to be a racer just like McQueen. The flashback scenes with Doc also hit hard as well. But that scene in Smokey’s garage? God damn! That hit me so hard in this movie. The emotion is done so well in this movie and is right on par with Finding Dory in terms of how it was handled. There were also a lot of surprises in this movie. Like Doc being shown in flashbacks as one of them. But I think the biggest surprise of all was the plot twist. I always love plot twists and unexpected moments in media. And that’s why Desti’s death in The Anime Arc took me completely by surprise. But I think it’s used really well here. Especially the pay off at the end. Set up and pay off is a common thing used in movies. But it worked incredibly well here when Cruz performs one of Doc’s tricks to beat Storm at then end. That.... was.... brilliant! And, in terms of negatives, there aren’t that many. I do wish Mater was used a little bit more in this movie, but, that doesn’t bother me that much. So, in conclusion, Cars 3 is an emotional, heartwarming, exciting roller coaster ride of a movie that is, in my opinion, my all time favourite Pixar movie and one of my favourite movies of all time. And it is such an improvement over Cars 2 and is right next to Finding Dory in terms of some of the best Pixar movies of all time. I would recommend this to anyone who loves comeback stories and coming of age stories.Like Finding Dory, Cars 3 gets a full score of 10 out of 10 stars. A perfect way to cap off the Cars trilogy and ends it on a very high note indeed.

Right now, I'm working on my Western Spaghetti review. So, stay tuned for that.
