Back to the Triassic! by Unenlagia90 on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

A scene that's reminiscent to the scene which large pseudosuchians killing giant dicynodonts from the Triassic. But it is in the mid-Miocene of Venezuela, which is a Barinasuchus arveloi killing a Xenastrapotherium christi.

Barinasuchus is a large Sebecid crocodylomorph from the Eocene to Miocene of Argentina, Venezuela and Peru. It was one of the last Notosuchians lived, and one of the biggest known. Notosuchians originated from Jurassic, the first being the large Razanandrongobe from Madagascar. Their major prosperity is in the Cretaceous period, where they diverted to different clades ranging from cat-sized cuties to large predators. They survived the Cretaceous-Paleogene extinction, and all the way to the Miocene which they lived along, and hunted the SANUs, sloths, glyptodonts and other mammals.

Xenastrapotherium is a an astrapothere from the mid-late Miocene of Northern South America. Xenastrapotherium were elephant-like SANUs that lived from the Paleocene to Miocene. They live a semi-aquatic lifestyle like today's hippos, feeding on aquatic plants and lives in shallow waters. Xenastrapotherium were big astrapotheres, ranging about the size and weight compared to a modern-day black rhinoceros.
