A Penguin Pokemon, Piplup is one of the available Starter Pokemon in the Sinnoh region. Piplup has a strong sense of pride, which can make it tough to get along with for most trainers. A skilled swimmer that perfers colder climates, Piplup can dive for ten minutes to fish for food. Piplup evolves into Prinplup, then Empoleon.

Torchic appears from the Poke Ball in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and uses Surf, gliding across the stage and taking whatever opponent caught in the surf off the stage with it. It returns in Smash for Wii U and Ultimate in the background of the Kalos Pokemon League's Flood Chamber.
