A seemingly ordinary high school student who moves to the town of Inaba, staying with his uncle and cousin during his stay. Not long into his stay in town, he investigates mysterious murders taking place, and learns that the cause is Shadows, creatures representing the dark sides of people that exist within a world called the Midnight Channel. Joining up with a number of friends whose inner turmoils he helps overcome, they work to put a stop to these deaths by entering TVs in secret, while also tending to their normal high school lives and hanging with each other and other friends. A generally unassuming teen who speaks only when spoken to, he becomes a capable and trusted leader among his peers. His name is whatever the player wants it to be, but he has taken the moniker "Yu Narukami" in most forms of media. As a Persona user of the Fool Arcana, he possesses the Wild Card, and can summon and fuse any Persona he comes across.

In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, this character's likeness is the basis of a costume for the Mii Swordfighter.
