Bassist Extraodinaire by VinVagia on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

As the beginning of the new year gets closer, the musicians of Sector 1404, including myself, begin our preperations for the Monster Mammoth Jam which is held at every New Year's Eve.

Musicians from all over gather to rehearse as one huge instrumental band, pushing their skills to the limit to bring forward a performance as awesome as can be.

Recently, while rehearsing, one of the bassists stopped and confronted Shelby during her break and asked just exactly how good she was. For us more experienced musicians, when it comes to asking her how good she is, we know to just not bother because she is damn good.

After a moment of staring at each other, Shelby put down her Veilette and opened another case which was on one of the many amplifiers which adorned the world class stage. She brought out her most prized possession, a $60,000 Carl Thompson she aptly named Carl. Now, for those of you who are familiar with Shelby, you can probably see what is so awesome about what she did.

For those of you who are not, here is the catch. Shelby is right-handed. That bass she is playing is a lefty and furthermore, it is stringed as a right-handed which means they are arranged oppositely. She picked it up and ran it through a jazzed-up version of Les Claypool's Awakening with utmost precision.

Once she was done, she put down the bass, smiled, and walked off. As the stunned bassist just stood there, I walked up to him and gave him a pat on the shoulder before walking off myself.
