Description

Known as Whispering Death by the Japanese, the Bristol Beaufighter was one of the Second World War's best anti-shipping aircraft. Yet the Beaufighter was not only used to attack Axis shipping, it also made an excellent ground attack plane and a light bomber. In the Pacific, flown by British and Australian crews it menaced the Japanese supply routs, in Europe flying alongside De Havilland Mosquitos they attacked the German iron ore convoys sailing down the Norwegian coast in defiance of Luftwaffe fighters operating out of Norway and in the Mediterranean, operating out of Malta they helped to strangle Rommel's supply lines. The aircraft also managed to impress the Americans, who also flew the plane, using it as a night-fighter in what was called Reverse Lend-Lease. this is not my painting.
