Clothes Shopping by WaywardSoothsayer on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

I actually like exploring different fashion concepts. Shopping for clothes to wear, on the other hand...

Personally, I think it's a pain in the arse. I suppose most of my ire comes from the fact that it's just nearly impossible to find anything that fits properly. When I go to big stores/chain stores/most mall stores (Target, Wal-Mart, etc.) everything is a million sizes too big and baggy- even when it's labelled 'XS' or '0' or whatever. When I want to shop at the Asian fashion import stores (which I generally adore) or designer stores, I'm way too stocky and bulky to fit in anything. Look, a pair of nice looking pants. Nope, I've got to hem those like all the other ones, because I'm too short. Hey, that's a cute top; the label says it's my size. I go and try it to find out that it fits like it's twenty sizes too large.

The last time I went looking for a suit-jacket to wear to job interviews, I had a hard time finding anything that was the right length...and when I found something that seemed to be perfect, the sleeves were crushingly tight because my arms are too bulky. Seriously, what the shit? Why is it so hard to find clothes that fit right these days? It just makes shopping for clothing absolutely unenjoyable.

I might as well give up and attempt to make my own clothes once I get my sewing machine repaired, because honestly. I don't hate shopping or fashion by any means- but what good is it when nothing fits right and it takes ages to find something that's half-decent, fits satisfactorily, and is marginally flattering? Besides shedding my barrel-like gut to squeeze into the Asian-import sized things that really do appeal to me, there's little else I can do regarding my body shape and type to fit into clothes. It's not like I can sprout a few more inches overnight or make my arms thinner.
