Description
Which one of these birds of prey has a bald head for real, it is a bald eagle or a turkey vulture? If you guessed turkey vulture, you're right! You see, despite its name, the bald eagle doesn't have a bald head. Bald eagles actually have white feathers on their head. 'Bald' refers not to the bald eagle's apparent baldness, but to the piebald plumage. But, turkey vultures do have a bald head, that way they could keep their feathers clean when they eat carrion. Without feathers, bits of meat can't get stuck to their heads. However, some people think that the turkey vulture uses its bald head to help with thermoregulation.
