Description

This creeper, scientific name Podranea ricasoliana, is found just in a small region of the Eastern Cape province of South Africa, but is cultivated all over the world. A related species - or perhaps just a slightly different form of the same species - occurs in Zimbabwe. These are vigorous vines that grow best in subtropical moist climates. In cold regions the above-ground parts die back, but if the winter was not *too* cold the roots will survive and send up new vines in summer. The beautiful trumpet-shaped flowers can last all through summer. Charcoal drawing coloured with Photoshop.
