Down the rabbit hole by y0g3n on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

The white rabbit catches Katjas' attention, pulling her away from her book. Kiyohime ducked down into a burrow in a haste late for... something? Katja follows down into the burrow, which quickly becomes weirder as they get further down.

Silver white eyes trace the words across the pages of the tattered old book, brown cover soft against her black hands as she reached to turn to the next page. The scattered light of the sun filtered down through the tree she’d sat under, Katja gave a soft breath out and gave a soft yawn before going back to her book, the quiet rustling of wind through the meadow the only sound that filled the air - that is before a twig snapped nearby, Katjas high ears pricked towards the sound, catching just a glimpse of a velvet hazel tail.

She set down her book, golden lettering on the cover “Alice in Wonderland” catching the suns dappled rays. Katja approached where the pearl kukuri - or maybe it was a very large rabbit - had disappeared, finding herself standing before a burrow hole just slightly bigger than herself, no way any kukuri who wasn’t a miniature like herself could fit through it. She tilted her head, knowing she’d just seen something almost twice her size just climb in as if it was nothing. The crimson prairie huffed then forced herself through the burrows entrance, against her better judgment there had to be some explanation for this strange occurrence.

Inside the burrow was much larger than it seemed, going down rather steeply she could barely make out the fluffy puff of a short tail up ahead in the tunnel downward, so she continued, making her way deeper. Light slowly began to fade as the entrance grew farther and farther away, now almost pitch black in the tunnel Katja slowed, the lack of light playing tricks on her eyes as the black walls around her danced in an oil slick rainbow of colors. She breathed in deep and closed her eyes, the smell of flowers and fresh fruit and tea of all things filled her nose, not the smell of loamy soil and mushrooms like she’d expected, making her white eyes snap open.

When her eyes opened she found she was no longer in a tunnel, but a lush garden, white and red roses spotted the rows of bushes as she looked around, the sound of others chattering and footsteps nearby. “Oh, I’m so late, I don’t have time for this maze!” Came one of the voices, closer than any of the others. Katjas emperor feathers pricked around her head, ears flattened to her head as she crept towards the voice, a group of kukuri passing by with buckets as they bickered between themselves, completely unaware of the miniature prairie ducked down in the shade of one of the bushes.
