Tohru and Kyo by Yamigirl21 on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

Hello everyone ^_^

How are you? Are you doing well? I sure hope that you are! Well, I finished my latest image; the one seen in the sketch that I submitted last week:

I have here my rendition of Tohru and Kyo from the wonderful series Fruits Basket! Truth be told, I have only glowing things to say about the series itself. Truly, it was one of the most well written and one of the most emotionally stimulating series that I've read period! Perhaps I even mentioned that previously, when I posted the sketch of this piece. ^^; But it really is difficult to find the words to describe this series..... It was quite beautiful, humorous at times, and most certainly heart-wrenching on a number of occassions! But as much as I loved ALL of the diverse, colorful and skillfully written array of characters, I must say that I, without a doubt, loved Tohru and Kyo most of all! Their love story developed slowly but surely, and it was certainly an amazing experience reading about its course, every step of the way!

In my rendition, as always, I chose to depict both characters somewhat older than they appeared in the manga; perhaps in their early 20s? I especially enjoyed depicting Tohru, who I believe will only be more lovely as she matures. I originally intended to depict her wearing a top that I saw her wearing in one of the colored illustrations found in the Fruits Basket: Banquet fanbook. However, the original blouse was yellow and I opted to paint her in pink and to make the blouse more of a dress instead. Since pink is often associated with Tohru I found it fitting, and given the colors within the sky, I thought it would blend nicely together as a whole. In addition, I have pink rose petals falling from the sky. One could argue that that's unrealistic I suppose, but I sort of viewed/painted this image more in Kyo's point of view; in the sense that Tohru is his whole world! As a result, the world itself is a little brighter; especially with her in his arms, pretty in pink as she appears here!

Given how sweet their courtship was, I also wanted to depict some of that tenderness within their embrace, while also trying to show their affection for each other by the look in their eyes. Perhaps that affection will continue to grow stronger as they mature too. Those who have read the entire series much likely know the answer to that one! :blushes:

As always, this piece was done using opague water color paints! Thanks for looking everyone and take care! :D

Love,
