Bastet - Mythos by YourClairyGodmother on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

Bastet is one of the main protagonists of the Mythos series. She's the team mom, the one who loves to encourage and support everyone. She knows her place in the team and tries to help everyone else discover theirs. She is a true team player who acknowledges and celebrates the differences of her teammates. In mythology, Bastet is the embodiment of the Egyptian cat goddess of fertility and guardian of the pharaohs and the dead. She is also the goddess of the home, domesticity, women's secrets, and childbirth. She protected the home from evil spirits and disease (especially diseases associated with women and children). Like many Egyptian deities, she also played a role in the afterlife as a guide and helper to the dead although this was not one of her primary duties. She's the daughter of the sun god Ra and is associated with the concept of the Eye of Ra (the all-seeing eye) and the Distant Goddess (a female deity who leaves Ra and returns to bring transformation).

Her design was modeled after ancient Egyptian fashion and makeup (apparently they had very interesting yet odd beauty treatments), with the color pallete of the sun. Bastet is also portrayed as a black cat (heck in ancient Egypt it was illegal to harm a black cat due to their connection of Bastet and the gods), so I made her black with black hair and a black cat tail and ears. According to Will, the idea to have Bastet be the most voluptuous of the girls but also be the noble and wise one was inspired by :iconsimply-lewdicrous:’s character Sylixia.

Fitting of a fertility goddess, Bastet is the most well-endowed of the girls with large breasts. But despite the fact that Bastet flaunts her voluptuous body, she is the most noble of the group. She acts as the motivator for Hisaishi and the other girls and she’s the one they come to for advice. She's portrayed as very wise and genuine, often being the most rational of the Mythos girls. Moral and loyal, Bastet is extremely lovable and sweet, like a kitten. She's' very gentle and considerate, but she's also courageous. In a way, Bastet represents the best aspects of femininity; being caring, compassionate, generous, empathetic, and nurturing, while still being a brave and intelligent heroine willing to protect her loved ones. However, she is flawed. She can be overly-sensitive, often letting negative emotions get to her sometimes, and she's very hesitant to try new things. She prefers sticking to what she is familiar with and will often need the help and encouragement of her friends to try and branch out. Bastet is over-protective, often doing things for them or telling the obvious for her friends, regardless if they know how to do it or not. She can treat her friends like children at times and can even be unknowingly condescending. She seems to take things too literally sometimes and she's very uncomfortable in hostile situations, meaning she's prone to stress in harsh environments. She tries too hard to please people sometimes, sometimes being a bit of a doormat. However, Bastet is still a generous and peaceful soul with endless love to give.

Bastet LOVES cats, naturally being a goddess of them. She can't stand to see cats in harm and loves to raise and take care of them. She also loves to play her prized sitar, which she is practically a professional at playing. She likes to sing, cook, and she loves to hang out with her friends and give them wise advice. But she also sports a lot of cat likes, such as sleeping in sunny spots, playing with yarn, drinking milk, eating fish, and cuddling up with friends. However she dislikes dogs, not surprisingly. She also dislikes bullies and has no tolerance for those who act cruelly to others. She also heavily dislikes water, the cold, and going to the vet.

Bastet fights using a pair of khopesh swords, which she fights gracefully with. She can also extend the bandages wrapped around her forearms as tentacles, and can summon the souls of the pharaohs and the dead she protects to fight for her. But Bastet treats the souls she summons as equals and will often thank them for their help by buying them a small meal to take with them back to the land of the dead. Though this takes a lot out of her, so she rarely does it.
