Mega Man 7 Resolution Experiment by ZEDIC0N on DeviantArt (original) (raw)
One of the more contentious things about Mega Man 7 is the scale at which the sprites are drawn.
With the SNES having the same aspect resolution as the NES, 256x224px, it makes the game feel very claustrophobic with Mega Man being 40px tall, compared to the 24px he was on the NES.
With this in mind, last year I produced a smaller Mega Man sprite, using the same palette and similar pose to the Mega Man 7 sprite. This sprite is 32px tall, in between NES Mega Man and Mega Man 7's original Mega Man. To demonstrate this, I threw him onto the first screen of Slash Man's stage, as well as an updated health bar graphic.
Later on during this year, I would create a sprite of Proto Man, based on my sprite from last year as I feel the original Mega Man 7 sprite is a little off. Lastly, I made a sprite of Bass, with a more natural looking posture to bring him more inline with the other characters.
I might expand the Mega Man sprite further with some animations such as teleporting, running, jumping and shooting, but for now I think this is enough.
The original Mega Man, Proto Man and Bass sprites, as well as the level graphics for the Ruined Street, Cloud Man and Slash Man stages were made by Capcom, all other work displayed here is mine and custom made unless stated otherwise, edits and collaborations will always be acknowledged and any original artists will receive appropriate credit.
