Rider: Damian Archer
Horse: Luminosa
Day 1
The duo stood on the parking lot, astonished by the huge and fancy buildings. As they walked to the stables to get themselves settled they got distracted by some people riding their horses to a big grassy arena with massive obstacles. “Looks like it won’t be easy, now will it?” Damian said as he started walking again. “Well, at least we’ve had a lot of training. We should be able to tackle this clinic and move on to HCL.”
Day 6
Damian watched the other riders get their horses ready, obviously used to all the facilities this stable had to offer. He however had no idea what to do with all the extra luxury. After he got Luminosa and himself ready he went on to the arena to warm his horse up for the first lesson of the day.
Today’s lesson was about collection, this was the lesson Damian really looked forward to. Even though he has years of experience with horses he always had trouble controlling the energetic mare, but perhaps through this clinic that would change. Mrs Thibodeau was a great teacher, she explained everything so easily it was easy to follow and actually remember the tricks.
When it was time to actually get on horseback and try these things out, Damian followed through immediately, understanding now why these things were so important. Today was the first day Damian felt truly in sync with his horse, he finally got the full concentration of the fiery mare and it felt amazing.
Day 7
The last day of the clinic, and at the same time the hardest part of the whole ordeal. Today they had to ride a whole 5* course. Which was scary, of course, but also very exciting. This was the moment Damian could find out if he would be able to actually have a chance to compete in HCL.
As his name got called he cantered up to the first jump, all his anxiety fading as they flew over the obstacle. Luminosa jumped one jump after the other with ease, until they got to a big wall. Luminosa always hated obstacles she couldn’t see over or through. Damian got a little nervous and the mare immediately picked up on it, sliding to a stop right before it. Damian tried to calm himself and the mare quickly before riding around and trying again. This time the mare did jump but she let a few of the bricks fall. After the course he got a few tips and tricks to help him. And after all the riders had finished he got another chance to try the wall, keeping in mind the tricks. The mare seemed hesitant to jump, but after some encouragement got over the jump quite easily. They would have to keep focussing on getting Lumi over walls but for now they’d be able to try registering for HCL.
