I saw Coraline not long after it came out, not in 3D unfortunately. Didn't really leave that much of an impression back then. Several weeks ago I listened to Coraline audiobook read by Gaiman himself and it left much more of an impression, very different, but curiously it made me rewatch and enjoy the movie much much more... And so... here we go, Other Mother AKA Beldam before becoming Other Mother.

Aha, my crazy prequel-generating imagination made up that there was another Other Mother. That is, Beldam is not the first Other Mother. She was just a girl once, who let the previous Other Mother sew buttons into her eyes (not before a while of hesitation and initial shock, which you see pictured above). But when the other Other Mother grew bored of her, Belinda (that's how I named Beldam's past self) to save her soul from being eaten up and to survive killed the other Other Mother. But that only made her the new one, now she had to feed on the lives of children she would have to trick into staying in the Other reality.

Kind of a sad story, when I think of it. May be she was that other Other Mother's real daughter. May be not... I think the original Beldam might have been an old-fashioned witch. Why she'd sew buttons in her own daughter's eyes? I don't know.

Anyway, if you read this far, thank you. Hope it was enjoyable and/or relevant. :D

I don't own Coraline, or the visual style of the movie, that I tried to emulate. I own the picture and the crazy prequel-story above. I guess. As much as you can own a fan-prequel...

P.S. I am slowly, very slowly crawling back onto DA. I will comment/reply stuff by milligrams. But it will happen.

P.P.S. drew this while watching the movie. No refs. 3 hours.
